
THE CHEST AND HEART ASSOCIATION OF BANGLADESH
The Chest & Heart Association of Bangladesh was started in 1974 with 7 (seven) life members and 20 (twenty) general members to exchange knowledge, experience and views relating to scientific affairs of respiratory medicine, thoracic surgery, cardiology & cardiac surgery among doctors. Founder president was late National Professor Nurul Islam. At present the association has been expanded with 395 life members and fairly large number of general members. As per constitution of The Chest and Heart Association of Bangladesh, executive committee meeting had been held at 03(three) months interval. In last year 04(four) executive meetings were conducted. Obituary notice has been circulated from the association on death of one member in last year.
Chest & Heart Journal:
Chest & Heart Journal is an official publication of the association. It is being published regularly on July and January session. It is one of the oldest medical journals of the country. The Journal is distributed to the life and general members of the Association, all the doctors of NIDCH as well as all Post-graduate Institutes, BSMMU, National Health Library, ICDDRB and all other related health institutions of the country.
Recently the get up & cover page has been changed according to the recommendation of BMDC. This journal is now enlisted in the BMDC & National Library Index. It has its’ own online URL www.http:/chabjournal.org where all the articles of every issue can be downloaded & printed. You will be highly delighted to know that the journal is being achieved the membership of BanglaJOL & indexed in BanglaJOL having the DOI number. The Association has been publishing newsletter regularly at 04 months interval.
Information about Land of Chest & Heart Association:
The Chest & Heart Association of Bangladesh has got a land at Mirpur which is currently captured by unauthorized occupants. Legal procedures have been taken to vacant the land and is under the jurisdiction of the High Court and waiting for its final judgment. Hopefully the association will be able to procure the land very soon.
Post Creation Activities:
A great success has been achieved by the kindness of the Government and tireless effort of The Chest & Heart Association of Bangladesh to create department as well as new posts. Formerly Respiratory Medicine Unit along with posts was created in 13 government Medical colleges. Very recently, A total of 57 (fifty seven) posts have been created- 36(thirty six) in respiratory Medicine and 21 (twenty one) in thoracic Surgery in NIDCH and 9 government medical colleges. This has developed a great inspiration for our young specialists and our long cherished demand has been finally fulfilled.
Continuing Medical Education:
Continuing Medical Education program is one of the major activities of the association conducted by the academic cell. In this context, institutional, local and regional conference throughout Bangladesh has been chalked out and activities are going on. The association conducted following Seminars.

World TB Day 2025
On 24th March 2025, World TB Day was celebrated by The Chest and Heart Association of Bangladesh, with the theme "Yes! We can end TB" at the NIDCH premises. There was deliberate participation from experts, guests from DGHS, NTP, doctors of NIDCH, and other hospitals.

50th anniversary of CHAB
It was a proud and historic moment on 11 May 2025 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of The Chest and Heart Association of Bangladesh (CHAB). This organization has been at the forefront of advancing pulmonary care for half a century. Over the past five decades, CHAB has played a pivotal role in promoting medical excellence. Fostering academic growth and enhancing patient care across Bangladesh.
As we gathered here at `Radison Blue` Dhaka to commemorate this milestone, we express our deep gratitude to our founders, mentors, and members whose contributions have shaped this remarkable legacy. Their dedication has empowered a generation of clinicians and improved the lives of countless individuals.

World Sleep Day-2025
"World Sleep Day - 2025" was celebrated on 14th March 2025 at NIDCH, organized by The Chest and Heart Association of Bangladesh (CHAB). The event focused on the theme "Make Sleep Health a Priority", highlighting the vital role of quality sleep in maintaining health. CHAB arranged an awareness rally & seminar to inform healthcare professionals and the public about common sleep disorders like Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Insomnia. The celebration successfully promoted greater awareness about sleep as a cornerstone of good health and disease prevention.
